CAN LED Indicator

Hi I’m just getting started with AP_Periph to create a UAVCAN node, so please excuse my blanks in understanding. I’m using an f103 board and have been able to get the GPS working with the prebuilt binaries and by following the guide to build my own. My question is how do I get indicator LEDs through the CAN node to have external LEDs on my system? Do i need an LED driver or can I just set some gpios in HWdef to achieve this?
